2010, Bitches!

February 8, 2010:
Brought to you from the desk of MTG Company Member Kevin Finkelstein...

I met Lucas Maloney in November of 2008, when we were both Assistant Directing a production. He was introduced to me as the Artistic Director of Molotov Theatre Group, a company I was familiar with both in name and because I had previously worked with Alex Zavistovich on some other projects.

What I didn’t know at the time was exactly how fucked up these two individuals are. But I would learn. 11 months after that meeting, you could find me onstage, on all fours on a bed, with my leather pants around my ankles getting whipped with a belt and cut with a razor before having cocaine snorted off of my bare ass.

How the fuck did this happen?

In the 14 months since I met Lucas, I’d solidified my friendship with both him and Alex, graduated from the inaugural Disturbatory, performed in Blood, Sweat & Fears II, became a company member, got cast in the next production and was given the reins to direct the summer show (more on those two later).

“Ecsorbete Ignavi” indeed, bitches.

MOLOTOV Featured on WAMU's METRO CONNECTION

Alex Zavistovich and Lucas Maloney of Molotov Theatre Group were interviewed in November by WAMU 88.5FM's local radio news magazine, Metro Connection. Read the blurb below and listen to the interview!

"You know when you reach the bottom of your candy bag that October 31st is but a distant memory. But DC's Molotov Theatre is keeping the horrors of Halloween alive and well in Dupont Circle. The mission? To revive the style of the Parisian 'Grand Guignol' horror plays - dramas that deal with macabre subjects and often graphic violence. So, prepare for lots of eye-gouging, throat-slashing and acid-throwing. Stephanie Kaye visits the bloodied and embattled troupe, and speaks with two Molotov members, Alex Zavistovich and Lucas Maloney."

THE STICKING PLACE Wins Best of the Fringe!

The Sticking PlaceJuly 27, 2008: Proving definitively that there's no accounting for taste, Molotov Theatre Group's thrill-kill sexual bloodplay comedy "The Sticking Place" jumped right over all the sub-categories to win the audience Pick of the Fringe award for Best Overall at the Capital Fringe Festival. The announcement was made on July 26, at the conclusion of Fringe festivities.

Molotov Theatre Group is America’s second-oldest Grand Guignol theatre. The company won recognition as "Best Comedy" in the 2007 Capital Fringe Festival for its debut original production "For Boston."

"This is a particularly sweet F.U. to some pin-headed critics and dusty old-school theatre geeks who shat all over the show for being gratuitous, sophomoric and disappointing," said Molotov’s Producing Artistic Director Lucas Maloney. "From now on, those three words will be in our mission statement, and tattooed on our ass cheeks."

"We'll shed a few tears about failing to impress the increasingly irrelevant pilot fish on our particular brand of shark while we're polishing up our BEST OVERALL AWARD," said Maloney, adding, "an award which, by the way, we're going to keep right next to last year's award for BEST COMEDY. So suck it, wimps."
